Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to be conferred with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award, “in recognition of his supreme leadership and for awakening the feeling of patriotism among citizens.” as mentioned on the citation which he will receive along with a memento.
Marking the 103rd death anniversary of freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak, the event is scheduled to be held on the 1st of August at Tilak Vidyapeeth, Pune.
NCP President Sharad Pawar has been invited as a chief guest, while his nephew and Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, will also be present at the event.
Amid the growing political turmoil in Maharashtra, this will be the first time since Ajit Pawar’s rebellion and oath-taking, the uncle-nephew duo will be sharing stage.
Prime Minister Modi is the 41st recipient of this award, which has been previously awarded to prominent personalities such as former prime minister Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the Managing Director of Serum Institue- Cyrus Poonawalla, to name a few.
According to reports, Trust president Deepak Tilak quoted in a press release stating, ""PM Modi awakened the feeling of patriotism among citizens and put India on the global map. Considering his perseverance and efforts, and highlighting his work, the trustees of the Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust have unanimously selected him for this award,""
Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, and Congress leader Sushilkumar Shinde are also expected to mark their presence.
Meanwhile, Makarand Patil, another NCP MLA of the Wai constituency in Maharsht’s Satara district, joins Ajit Pawar's camp. Patil says he decided to join the camp, to save two sugar factories in his constituency, which are undergoing a financial crisis.
